Hotkeys
One shortcut does everything. Here's how to master it.
The Shortcut
VoxInk uses a single hotkey for all interactions:
Fn + Ctrl
What it does depends on how long you hold it.
Short Press — Switch Modes
Tap and release quickly (under 200ms)
Cycles through modes in order: Polish → Direct → Translate → Polish → ...
The current mode is shown in the menu bar. Each short press advances to the next mode.
Long Press — Record and Send
Press and hold (over 200ms)
Recording begins. You'll see a visual indicator in the menu bar.
Speak
Say what you want to type. Keep holding the keys.
Release
Recording stops. Text is processed (if in Polish or Translate mode) and inserted at your cursor.
Preheat — Why It Feels Instant
VoxInk starts preparing before you even begin recording. Here's the trick:
Modifier key detection
When you press Fn (or Ctrl), VoxInk immediately begins fetching API keys and warming up the connection. By the time you press the second key and start recording, everything is ready.
This "preheat" system means there's virtually no startup delay. You press, speak, release — text appears within a second.
Quick Reference

Tips for Fastest Response
- Start speaking immediately — don't wait for a visual cue. Recording starts the moment you hold past 200ms.
- Use Direct mode for speed — no AI round-trip means text appears faster.
- Keep recordings short — shorter clips process faster. For long dictation, do multiple short recordings.
- Stable internet helps — VoxInk streams audio to Soniox in real-time. A good connection means faster results.
